For some reason, visitors are convinced there is a river that runs in front of Mt. Rushmore...
There is no river. At all. Not even a stream.
Someone called yesterday and asked, "Has the Mississippi River flooded Mt. Rushmore?"
...the Mississippi River is two states away.
Someone also called the other day and asked, "Do I need to make a reservation if I want to eat dinner by the beautiful river that runs underneath Mt. Rushmore?"
In other news, I've been giving two ranger walks every day! My theme is "multiculturalism & foreign relations," and I talk about cool facts like how the sculptor studied in Paris with Rodin, how Jefferson spoke 26 languages, how Roosevelt solved a major crisis in Venezuela and built the Panama Canal, and how Lincoln was humiliated when czarist Russia ended slavery before the U.S. did. The other rangers have been tagging along, trying to blend in with the tourists at the back of the group, which is extremely intimidating... HELLO, I see you in your green park ranger uniform and your park ranger hat!
My next day off is this Friday, so my roommate Andrew and I are heading up to North Dakota (aka NoDak, as all the cool kids call it) to see Teddy Roosevelt National Park.
If you haven't noticed, I'm still loving this internship!
Hope everyone is having a great, warm summer. (Oh yea, it snowed here two days ago. Yep, on May 29th.)
Jacob
