Flat Stanley

If you don't know who Flat Stanley is, you should. Flat Stanley used to just be Stanley, but then a billboard fell on him, and therefore gave him an intense desire to travel around the United States..... Elementary schoolers send Flat Stanley to various landmarks and ask that he be photographed with the landmark, and then sent back with anecdotes, pictures, etc.

I was asked to be in charge of all Flat Stanleys that show up at Mt. Rushmore, which means I have to carry him everywhere and photograph him in various locations around the park. I look like an idiot walking around with this floppy paper man, and all the rangers make fun of me... but it's surprisingly fun! The first graders at Billingsport Elementary in Paulsboro, New Jersey will be pleased.

So today there were two HUGE troops of German tourists, so that was cool, except for the part where I got into an argument with this one German tourist who INSISTED that Lincoln's face was the second face carved on Mt. Rushmore, when it was Jefferson who was carved second... he was actually getting angry with me, but I definitely passed Park Ranger 101 with flying colors--don't ever doubt Ranger Jacob.

On a completely different note, should I be concerned that my future roommate's background check has not been cleared yet, and hence, he can't move in until later than expected?? That'd be my luck--my roomie, the serial killer.

Lastly, when a Junior Ranger had to fill out in her Junior Ranger book "What do Park Rangers do?," she wrote, "Park Rangers spread love and care."  I don't really know what that means, but allegedly my love and care are being spread all around Mt. Rushmore, even as we speak!

I have the next two days off and then I start "Ranger Training." I think that means I am going to learn how to defend against killer goats.
