Today is my last full day here in SD. Some of the rangers had another get-together for me last night, which was awesome. Today Andrew and I went to Ranger Charlie's house to shoot guns... MUR'CA! I have never shot a gun before, actually, but today I experienced what it's like to shoot rifles, pistols, and revolvers. My shot was quite good, if I may say so myself... Sarah Palin would be SO proud!
I am actually the biggest klutz in the entire world. This morning, in an effort to pack quickly so I could get to Charlie's, I stubbed my left big toe so badly that I was bleeding. I was limping all day, and then when I got to Charlie's house, I stepped on a wasp and got stung on the bottom of my right foot, so I've been gimpy all day. Oh--and while shooting the pistols at beer cans and targets in Charlie's backyard, part of the gun chamber pinched my finger, so blood was squirting everywhere. Ah, the West!
This summer has been mind-blowing. I realized how many "firsts" I've had here out in the West since I arrived... first time working at Mt. Rushmore (duh), first time visiting Mt. Rushmore, first time being in South Dakota (and North Dakota and Wyoming), first time having a buffalo take a dump in front of me, first time I fired a gun...
I'm thinking this is probably my last post, but I wanted to thank you all for reading my blog! You may not have realized this, but the Blogspot site where I made this blog keeps track of how many people read my blog, who reads my blog, when people read my blog, etc... it was a pleasure sharing all of my South Dakotan tomfoolery with you!! Have a wonderful rest of your summer, and remember, never underestimate the importance of a park ranger.
