A lot has happened in the past few days...
I ate the best Reuben EVER at this place in town called "Teddy's"... the guy working there said they were going to name the deli "Abe's," but they thought Roosevelt was more likely to eat a sandwich than Lincoln...... Hmm.
Yesterday a visitor found $1400 just chillin on the ground... She returned it to the Information Center (what an Honest Abe!) and I pocketed the cash... Just kidding. The law enforcement rangers were called to make sure no one tried to steal the money from her or from the desk. Scandalous!
Apparently the park rangers in charge of maintenance (there's about 20 of them) have a psychologist coming in once a week to talk about better, more effective communication. Ranger Therapy? Being a park ranger is hard!!
I thought I was going to get fired the other day. There are 2 elevators that go down to the museum--the Washington elevator and the Lincoln elevator. The Lincoln elevator hasn't been working for the past few weeks, but no one told me that it was up and running the other day... so when I closed the museum at night, I forgot to lock the Lincoln elevator because I assumed it was still broken. Well, someone filled out a "citation" against me for being "negligent." Really?? Luckily none of my bosses cared because people in the Parks Department are chill.
Two kids came into the information center yesterday... "We can't find our aunt." Half an hour later, I went looking for the woman, described as "an old lady wearing a Flintstones shirt." I finally found her; she didn't seem too worried that the children had been missing... I started walking with her to the information center so she could retrieve them-- she stops 50 ft. from the information center and says, "Wait, no. Don't tell them I'm here." Then she ran the opposite way. What a good aunt.
Final story of the day? This Swiss couple thought I was from Germany.
I can't believe I'm almost done here at Rushmore... it's gone by so fast!!
