Rount Mushmore

Before we go on our ranger walks, we make these loud announcements to the visitors, telling them how long the walk will be, where we walk, etc.  I yelled to about 300 visitors yesterday, "Attention Rount Mushmore visitors!"  Fail.

The past few days have been RIDICULOUSLY crazy... too bad I am leaving soon; I wish I could have been here at the peak of the season (July 4th) so I could deal with all the parking complaints and junior rangers.

The junior ranger kids are still (mostly) cute.  It gets annoying though when you have to swear in 7000 junior rangers a day...  My question "Which president on Mt. Rushmore is your favorite and why?" still elicits awesome responses.  Yesterday, one girl told me Theodore Roosevelt was her favorite president because Roosevelt was a girl... another boy told me today that his favorite president was "Washington D.C."

I love when people yell at me about parking... I'm not being facetious; I actually really like it.  I remain calm and cool and collected while the irate visitor screams and flails and spits, and he just looks like a baboon while I prove how sophisticated and classy I am ;-)  What I really don't understand is that people come to Mt. Rushmore to have a good time; you're on vacation, hello!!  Why would you spend your vacation complaining and trying to find things that will aggravate you?

Tomorrow is my final day of work... I can't believe it's been ten weeks!  Maybe a career in park ranging is in the future??!  Maybe one day I'll be the superintendent of Mt. Rushmore and earn tons of money and live in a cave inside of the faces (which I'd have to build)...

Jake
