The Real Lincoln

The duty of an interpretive park ranger is to present a detailed, accurate, and interesting account of history to the public, no?? Therefore, I am contemplating re-writing my ranger walk... or creating a new ranger walk--exploring the argument that Abe Lincoln was gay...  Actually, I'd never really do a ranger walk on this topic; after all, I want closed-minded visitors to like me...

In other news, when I left for France, I shipped my ranger boots back to Michigan, thinking I wouldn't need them for a while... When I realized I was coming back to SD, however, I had to buy new boots... so... in Connecticut, I bought traditional Connecticut-style hiking books (aka Ralph Lauren Polo boots).  I'm obviously the most chic park ranger that ever lived...  Many of the other rangers make fun of me, though... sometimes I just cannot escape the preppy within me.

So every so often, there is this reverend from a Baptist church in Rapid City that brings his church choir with him to see Mt. Rushmore... for a man who preaches about charity, I find it ironic that the reverend drives a HUGE white Cadillac Escalade with gold trim and gold rims... oh, and his license plate?  It says "BISHOP."  Only in South Dakota.

Ok, I should get some sleep.  Today was exhausting; I gave 4 studio talks today... (usually MORU rangers only give 1--maybe 2--but I had to cover for rangers who were sick/on leave.)  I am so genuinely happy to be back in South Dakota; I love Mount Rushmore and I love my coworkers... what more could I ask for in terms of a summer internship?
